The Congo Nile Trail Experience in Rwanda
Rwanda is the land of a thousand hills in Africa. Full of surprises for its size, with an established and fast-growing economy and a well-organized tourist circuit, the country is home to a wide variety of wildlife species, including endangered species. Mountain gorillas (a species of gorilla beringei and golden monkeys) are a hallmark of the country, yet new products are being developed to explore the country, and the Congo Nile Trail Experience in Rwanda is one of the beautiful tourist activities.
The Congo Nile Trail Experience in Rwanda initiative was launched in 2011 with the aim of making Rwanda one of Africa’s leading cycling destinations. The trail is named after the landmark that separates the Nile River from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. However, this does not mean that these paths cross the two boundaries of the function. It stretches over a distance of 227 square kilometers from Gisenyi to the southern shore of Lake Kivu in Rusizi district. It’s the best trail that’s been established for a long time, and it’s something out of the ordinary. A great way to experience Rwanda. The beautiful scenery of rolling hills, the vast forests of Nyungwe National Park and the cool, fresh breeze from the shores of Lake Kivu.
Along the way, you can see locals walking through banana, tea and coffee plantations. Local children greet us with smiles while waving their hands on the roadside. Supporting the local community is very important here when cycling. On the way there is an opportunity to visit an orphanage, so cute children need not worry too much. At the end of the drive you will reach the top of the Congo Nile River. There are several ways to go down this road. You can choose between driving, walking or biking. However, the best way to experience the Congo Nile Trail is by e-bike or on foot. Currently, construction work including pavement is being carried out along the sidewalk. However, this doesn’t mean the trail loses its beauty; it’s just that it’s even more awesome than it can be. There are restaurants along the way, so you can eat and drink during the trip.
Hiking and biking are best done during the dry season from December to February and June to September of the year. This is because the trail becomes more difficult and easier to follow. Please be aware that during the rainy season conditions can be very difficult at any time during the activity. Tours to experience the Congo Nile can be arranged by local operators in Gisenyi or Kigali. Be sure to bring rain gear, thin long-sleeved shirt and pants, gloves, insect repellent, waterproof carrying case, and jacket. camera and personal items. To enter Rwanda, you need the correct travel documents such as passports, visas and yellow fever vaccination cards.
It takes about 3 hours by car to reach Gisenyi and start the bike tour. You can come with your own bike or rent one from a company that provides an itinerary. The long drive was perfectly timed through different towns so we were able to refresh ourselves and participate in many fun activities like swimming in Lake Kivu and interacting with the fishermen.
